Marlin Action
Green Mountain Barrel
Caliber 17 Fireball

March 11th, 2016

The wind has finally subsided and I was more than ready to finish the break-in procedure and get the rifle sighted in. So I gathered up all the needed equipment and headed for the shooting bench.

The rifle is still in the synthetic stock but I should at least be able to see the potential. At the bench I fired 3 shots and then ran 2 solvent soaked patches through the bore. Brushed with a nylon brush and then 2 or 3 dry patches. Repeating this until I ran out of ammo, which was a total of 20 rounds.

I am anxious to see what a BB moving 4200 FPS will do to a prairie dog. Since the rifle has nearly zero recoil, the view through the scope should be, well, scenic.

While not a tiny group by any stretch, a little tweaking should resolve that. I am pleased with the results and might have to build a 17 Fireball that I could actually carry to coyote hunt with.
